Sweeting storms to early lead, claims 10-3 Scotties win over Quebec

MONTREAL – Alberta’s Val Sweeting earned a 10-3 win in eight ends over Quebec’s Allison Ross on Thursday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Ross (1-9) opened the match with the hammer but Sweeting (7-3) had steals of two, three and two points over the first three ends for a commanding 7-0 lead before Quebec scored one in the fourth.

With the win, Alberta moved into a second-place tie with Manitoba and Saskatchewan, who both have seven victories but two less losses than Sweeting.

In the only other early game, Kesa Van Osch of B.C. (6-4) claimed a 7-3 victory over Heather Strong of Newfoundland (4-6).
