Rob Ford’s refusal to attend pride parade not homophobic, says brother Doug

TORONTO – Toronto’s Ford brothers are back in the spotlight after making controversial comments about the city’s pride festival.

Mayor Rob Ford and his city councillor brother Doug have long raised the ire of the city’s gay community by refusing to attend the annual pride parade.

In past years, the mayor has said he was unable to attend due to a family tradition of spending time at the cottage.

But at a debate for prospective mayoral candidates on Wednesday, Ford suggested that he has no intention of going to any future pride parades, saying he won’t change “the way” he is.

Coun. Doug Ford added fuel to the fire on Thursday by describing the event as one that allows “buck naked men” to run down the street.

Doug Ford said he didn’t condone such things, but added that neither he nor his brother were homophobic.
