Blatter: I’ll run again as FIFA president if member countries ask me

SOCHI, Russia – Sepp Blatter says he would seek re-election as FIFA president if the member federations ask him.

Blatter tells Swiss state broadcaster RTS that, if they asked, “I would not say no” to being a candidate in May 2015. He would be 79 then.

The 209 members’ opportunity arrives on June 10 in Sao Paulo at their annual congress ahead of the World Cup opening match.

Blatter could use the congress to pre-empt a candidacy from UEFA President Michel Platini, who has refused to commit before the World Cup.

Four years ago, Blatter sought and received acclamation from FIFA’s congress in Johannesburg to seek a fourth four-year term.

Blatter has intimated he will run again despite pledging in 2011 that this term would be his last.
