Wet, cool weather just in time for the weekend in the Interior

PENTICTON – This weekend’s forecast for the Southern Interior appears to be perfectly timed to disrupt planned outdoor activities.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says an approaching low-pressure system will cool temperatures and spread rain throughout the Kamloops and Okanagan region as early as tomorrow night, June 8.

“I’m happy to see rain in the forecast for the fire season, but it’s bad timing coming on the weekend,” Lundquist says, adding a high-pressure system behind the low will result in clearing skies and temperatures into the mid-20s by early next week.

Until then, the forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today, June 7, and tomorrow with daytime high temperatures ranging between 24 and 27 Celsius. There is a risk of thunderstorms in the Okanagan this afternoon and evening.

On Saturday and Sunday, expect rain in the Okanagan and a 60 per cent chance of showers in Kamloops. High temperatures will range from 18 C to 20 C on Saturday and 14 C to 16 C on Sunday.

For back to work Monday, it should be sunny and 21 C in Kamloops, while the Okanagan may see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 19 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
