Ultimate Fighting Champion’s Silva held in Fla. jail; accused of threatening wife with gun

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – An Ultimate Fighting Champion fighter is being held in a Broward County jail, accused of threatening his wife with a gun.

Jail records show 31-year-old Thiago Silva was being held without bond Saturday.

The Brazilian mixed martial artist was arrested on Thursday on charges that include attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and obstruction without violence. But his attorney, Scott Saul, says the charges were downgraded during a Friday court appearance to aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

A message left with Ultimate Fighting Championship was not immediately returned.

Authorities say Silva took a gun to a mixed martial arts academy in Oakland Park where he threatened his estranged wife. Silva left and was holed up in his home for hours until he surrendered.
