Police head moving to fire officer in 2011 fatal shooting
CHICAGO – The Chicago Police Department has moved to fire an officer for allegedly lying about the circumstances that led to the 2011 fatal shooting of a motorist.
The Chicago Tribune reports the department is seeking Officer Raoul Mosqueda’s firing after the Independent Police Review Authority found he violated department policies in the shooting of 27-year-old Darius Pinex.
Pinex was unarmed when he was shot after police stopped his vehicle. The review board determined Mosqueda lied about the reason for the stop.
Mosqueda and another officer said the vehicle matched the description they’d heard over the radio of a car wanted in a shooting. But the dispatch was aired in a different radio zone, so the officers didn’t hear it.
A police spokesman says Mosqueda was suspended Saturday without pay. The other officer quit in 2015.
Mosqueda’s phone number is unlisted and he couldn’t be reached for comment.
