Nanaimo girl OK after suspect punches her, grabs iPhone in Sunday attack

NANAIMO, B.C. – RCMP are investigating an assault and robbery of a 14-year-old girl in Nanaimo, B.C.

Const. Gary O’Brien says the teen was sitting outside a busy recreation centre in central Nanaimo when she was attacked late Sunday afternoon.

The girl was punched and knocked to the ground as the suspect grabbed her iPhone and fled.

A man nearby gave chase, but the suspect was last seen fleeing by bike.

The young victim suffered bruises to her face and a cut knee but did not require medical attention.

O’Brien says police have found no connection between the girl and her attacker.
