WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump says he thinks he swayed Emmanuel Macron’s thinking on Iran during the French president’s three-day state visit to Washington this week.
Trump has set May 12 as the date he’ll leave the landmark nuclear deal that the U.S. and its European allies negotiated with Iran — unless there’s a fix agreed to with the Europeans.
Trump says Macron “is viewing, I believe, Iran a lot differently than he did before he walked into the Oval Office.”
The president tells “Fox & Friends” that Macron “understands where I’m coming from with respect to Iran.”
Macron is pushing Trump to keep the U.S. in the agreement. Macron said before he left Washington on Wednesday that he expected Trump withdraw from the deal “for domestic reasons.”
