Prince Edward Island legislature is latest to fly rainbow flag during Olympics

CHARLOTTETOWN – Prince Edward Island has become the latest province to raise a rainbow flag outside its legislature during the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Several Canadian cities — including Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton and St. John’s, N.L. — have also hoisted rainbow flags outside of city halls and legislatures.

Russia signed a law in July that outlaws so-called pro-gay propaganda that could be accessible to minors.

The law has been criticized by human rights groups and led to protests in cities around the world.
