Daniel Lanois tribute, Isabella Rossellini show part of Luminato Festival

TORONTO – A tribute concert for renowned musician/producer Daniel Lanois and a stage show based on actress Isabella Rossellini’s short “Green Porno” films are set for Toronto’s Luminato Festival.

Organizers for the annual arts series say “Sleeping in the Devil’s Bed: The Music of Daniel Lanois” will feature the artist himself as well as an ensemble of others.

It will debut June 10 at Massey Hall.

Meanwhile, “Green Porno, Live on Stage” is described as a “delightfully insightful Day-Glo examination of the quirks and curiosities of zoological boudoirs.”

It’s conceived and performed by Rossellini, based on the short “Green Porno” films she created for the Sundance Channel.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere co-wrote the show, which says Rossellini “literally dons skins, scales and wings for an orgasmic and occasionally acrobatic examination of the love life of animals.”

It makes its Canadian premiere June 6 through June 8 at the Winter Garden Theatre.

The two shows are part of the festival’s Premiere Series, which will also include New Zealand choreographer Lemi Ponifasio’s “Stones in Her Mouth” featuring song and dance by Maori women.

The Luminato Festival runs June 6 to June 15.
