Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,900.49 up 19.50 points):

Trevali Mining Corp. (TSX:TV). Miner. Up three cents, or 2.80 per cent, to $1.10 on 15.8 million shares.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Down $1.60, or 20.46 per cent, to $6.22 on 13.6 million shares. Air Canada reported improved fourth-quarter results and its best full-year in the airline’s 77-year history. But both results still missed analyst expectations and the stock, a recent high-flyer, was hammered by investors.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace. Down 11 cents, or 2.65 per cent, to $4.04 on 8.1 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down 23 cents, or 3.90 per cent, to $5.67 on 6.4 million shares.

Delphi Energy Corp. (TSX:DEE). Oil and gas. Up 13 cents, or 5.73 per cent, to $2.40 on 6.1 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurance. Up 43 cents, or 2.10 per cent, to $20.91 on 4.7 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (981.73 up 1.49 points):

Renegade Petroleum Ltd. (TSXV:RPL). Oil and gas. Up one cent, or 0.77 per cent, to $1.31 on 28.5 million shares.

Alexander Energy Ltd. (TSXV:ALX). Oil and gas. Down two cents, or 3.08 per cent, to 63 cents on 5.1 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canada Bread (TSX:CBY). Baker. Up $4.94, or 7.34 per cent, at $72.20on 100,0212 shares. Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo has agreed to buy all the company’s stock for $72 a share in a deal valued at $1.83 billion. The takeover has the support of Maple Leaf Foods (TSX:MFI), which holds some 90 per cent of Canada Bread shares. Maple Leaf shares were down 14 cents, or 0.88 per cent, at $15.70 on 2.3 million shares.

Husky Energy Inc. (TSX:HSE). Oil and gas. Up 49 cents, or 1.49 per cent, to $33.45 on one million shares. Husky posted adjusted quarterly earnings of $412 million or 42 cents per share, down from $487 million a year earlier, but still beat the average analyst estimate of 38 cents per share as compiled by Thomson Reuters.

Talisman Energy (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Up 24 cents, or 2.05 per cent, to $11.92 on 4.2 million shares. The company posted an unexpected US$1-billion net loss in the fourth quarter, reflecting a writdown on its North Sea operations, which have been a long-running headache for it.
