B.C. politicians support move to fly rainbow flag at legislature in Victoria

VICTORIA – The rainbow flag representing gay pride will be raised today at British Columbia’s legislature.

Provincial politicians are unanimous in their support of flying the flag.

Vancouver New Democrat Spencer Chandra Herbert, who is openly gay, congratulated all members of the legislature for their collective support of the flag.

It is set to be raised on the west side of the legislature.

Herbert says the decision to fly the flag comes as much of the world’s attention is focused on the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the host country’s decision to pass anti-gay laws.

B.C. now joins every other province in Canada, except Ontario, in raising the rainbow flag at its legislature.
