UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning ended in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – The threat of a severe thunderstorm is over for the South Thompson.

The severe thunderstorm warning for Kamloops and the area was ended at around 4:20 p.m. today, June 21.

Environment Canada says severe thunderstorms have weakened or moved out of the region.

A thunderstorm watch issued early this morning remains in effect. Conditions in the South Thompson are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and heavy rain.

The main threat will be rainfall of up to 25 millimetres in one hour due to the slow motion of the storms, Environment Canada says. Wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour are possible.

Strong wind gusts have the potential to damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Hail is also possible and heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
