ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Police are investigating an accident that resulted in some diesel to spill into a stream in Abbotsford.
Abbotsford police Const. Paul Walker says a power transformer on Manufacturers Way was knocked down by a semi truck that was performing a U-turn early Saturday morning.
He says a diesel tank being hauled by the vehicle was ripped open in the accident, spilling fuel into a storm drain leading to a fish habitat near Riverside Road.
Walker says power was cut in the surrounding area and damage to the transformer alone will cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Walker says provincial environment officials are going to assess how much fuel was spilled and the extent of the damage.
Police are still trying to find the truck and its operator.
