Long-term sex offender back behind bars accused of assaulting officer

VANCOUVER – A convicted sex offender is back behind bars in Vancouver and could face a new charge for allegedly punching a correctional officer.

National Parole Board spokesman Patrick Storey says 41-year-old James Pike was living in a halfway house when he was taken to a medical exam.

He says Pike became agitated during the exam and when he was returned to a cell, he twice punched a correctional officer in the face and smashed his own head into the door and concrete wall.

Storey says the board is recommending a charge of break of probation for Pike, a former Kamloops resident who is on a long-term supervision order.

He says Pike is considered a substantial risk to the community. (CHNL)
