B.C. man accused of stabbing woman at crosswalk charged with attempted murder
VANCOUVER – A 42-year-old Vancouver man has been charged with attempted murder, assaulting a police officer and attempting to disarm a police officer.
Police say a passerby noticed a man punching a woman in the head from behind as she waited at a downtown crosswalk, knocking her to the ground and stabbing her.
Police say the woman was left bleeding on the sidewalk and that the passing driver followed the alleged attacker.
But police say during the arrest the suspect kicked one officer and tried to take the firearm from another before being restrained and taken to the city jail.
John Paterson remains in custody.
The 57-year-old woman is in stable condition in hospital.
