Troopers release details of fatal officer-involved shooting
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A man in a physical fight with an Alaska State Trooper was shot and killed after another trooper arrived on scene, officials said Monday.
Troopers responded Sunday night to a call of a domestic disturbance southwest of Wasilla. The trooper who initially responded alone made contact with Aaron Tolen, 37, Troopers said in a release.
Troopers said Tolen got into a physical altercation with the trooper inside the residence. “Back-up arrived and witnessed Tolen fighting the trooper on the floor,” the release said.
Troopers said Tolen was shot and died at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear which officer fired their weapon.
Officials said personnel involved in the officer-involved shooting were put on mandatory 72-hour leave, per department policy, and then will be identified.
