Canadian forward John Tavares leaves quarter-final after taking hit

SOCHI, Russia – Canadian forward John Tavares has left the Olympic hockey quarter-final against Latvia with an apparent injury.

The New York Islanders captain was taken into the boards by Arturs Kulda in the second period.

The Canadian went down in a heap but skated to the bench where he was seen wincing in pain.

It wasn’t immediately clear where Tavares hurt himself.

Tavares hasn’t recorded a point in the tournament.
