Kamloops RCMP make the rounds to ensure your vehicles are locked up

KAMLOOPS – Next month, Kamloops RCMP and auxiliary officers will be helping to lock out auto crime in the city.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release officers will be visiting local neighbourhoods to increase awareness about auto crime, like thefts from vehicles.

Auxiliary officers will fill out crime prevention notices and leave them on the windshield of each vehicle, Shelkie says. All vehicles are given the notice, either thanking them for securing their vehicle property or giving tips on how they can deter theft.

Some of those tips include keeping your spare keys in your wallet instead of your car, investing in a good anti-theft device, closing windows and locking doors, taking your possessions with you, avoiding parking behind fences or hedges, lighting your driveway all night and parking in well-lit areas near pedestrian traffic, engraving your stereo and other valuables with your driver's licence number, and calling police if you see any suspicious people or activities near a vehicle.

Kamloops RCMP have been vocal in the past about auto crime, stressing that it is generally preventable.
