SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Latest on the trial of a sex offender charged with killing four women while wearing a monitor (all times local):

Trial is underway for one of two men charged with raping and killing four Orange County women while wearing electronic monitors.

Steven Gordon is a registered sex offender.

On Wednesday, a prosecutor described the search for the killers by using GPS units and cellphone data. The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/2fZV0t6) says he compared it to the hunt for a killer shark in the movie “Jaws.”

Gordon, who’s acting as his own lawyer, declined to make an opening statement.

He and Franc Cano face possible death sentences if they’re convicted of killing the women in 2013 and 2014.

One body was found at an Anaheim, California, recycling centre.

Opening statements are expected in the trial of a sex offender accused of raping and killing four women during a murderous spree in Orange County while wearing a GPS tracking device.

Steven Dean Gordon of Anaheim is due in court Wednesday on four counts of murder and four counts of rape.

Gordon is representing himself at trial. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Authorities say 47-year-old Gordon and 30-year-old sex offender Franc Cano were wearing GPS devices for prior offences when they raped and killed four women in 2013 and 2014.

One of the women’s bodies was found at a recycling plant. Investigators linked her death to the disappearance of three other women also allegedly picked up by the pair.

Authorities say Gordon confessed to the murders.
