Parents charged in murder of teen son with diabetes make first court appearance
CALGARY – A man and woman charged in the death of their 15-year-old son have made a brief appearance in a Calgary court.
Rodica Radita (roh-DEE’-kuh rah-DEE’-tuh), who is 51, and Emil (ay-MEEL’)Marian Radita, 62, of Calgary have been charged with first-degree murder.
Police have said their son, Alexandru Radita, died of a bacterial infection stemming from neglect and starvation due to Type 1 diabetes.
They allege his parents did not provide him with proper medical treatment and, when his health declined, confined him to his room.
The couple appeared via closed circuit TV and were in separate cells.
They are to return to court March 13.
