Man killed after Canada Day parade in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD – The Canada Day parade in Abbotsford ended in tragedy when a man fell off the back of a truck.

A media release reports this afternoon at 12:43 p.m., Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a trailer at the intersection of Simon Ave and Gladwin Road.

Emergency services arrived on scene and located an injured elderly man who had been travelling in the back of a dodge ram pick-up truck which had left from the Canada Day parade procession. The man had fallen from the pick-up truck and was struck by a trailer it was pulling.  The elderly man was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service with serious injuries. The passenger has since succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Patrol Officers, General Investigation Officers and Collision Reconstructionist are investigating.

Names of the victim will not be released at this time.
