Casting call for Kamloops Players theatre production
KAMLOOPS – A local director is in search of actors and actresses for a new play being put on by the Kamloops Players community theatre club.
Writer Matt Alexander and director Meagan Carmichael with the Kamloops Players will be holding casting calls for the fall production “The Filthy, the Rich and the Shameless”, tomorrow, July 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 14 at 2:30 p.m. The auditions will take place at the Stage House Theatre, says Carmichael.
The play, which still has a working title, is a satirical comedy about soap operas. Carmichael says she is looking for a range of characters for the comedic show.
“The play centres around the main character, she finds out she only has 45 minutes to live, and then she finds out her husband is gay and is having an affair, and it’s really over the top funny,” Carmichael says.
The roles needing to be filled are both male and female and range in ages from late 20s to 55 and over.
The director is looking for anyone with interest in community theatre, no experience or stage experience is necessary, she says.
“I really want to emphasize that we are looking for people who haven’t had much theatre experience, to come out and give it a try.”
They are also looking for backstage and technical assistance to help with sound, lights, costumes, set decoration and set construction.
Those auditioning are asked to bring a headshot and a resume. For people auditioning without a membership to the Kamloops players theatre club, they are advised to bring $25 for the yearly membership in order to accept a role with the production.
The production dates for the play are Nov. 16, 17, 23 and 24.
