Argos pivot Ray misses practice with upper-body injury, status uncertain

Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray’s status for this weekend’s game against Hamilton is uncertain due to an injury that prevented him from participating in Thursday’s practice.

Head coach Scott Milanovich said Ray has an upper-body injury, but did not provide further details.

“He’s very sore,” Milanovich said. “I’ll have a better answer (Friday) regarding how he feels.”

It’s unknown when Ray suffered the injury. He went the distance in Monday night’s 49-36 road loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Ray has battled injury problems over the last few seasons. He missed most of the 2015 campaign while recovering from off-season shoulder surgery.

Ray began this season as Toronto’s starter but missed three games with a knee injury.

The 4-6 Argonauts will entertain the 5-5 Tiger-Cats on Sunday at BMO Field. Veteran Dan LeFevour will likely get the start if Ray is not available.

Youngster Logan Kilgore started the three games Ray missed earlier this season. He led Toronto to victory in his CFL debut as a starter but the Argos lost their next two games against Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Kilgore threw nine interceptions in the three starts.

Also Thursday, the CFL fined Argonauts wide receiver Kevin Elliott for a questionable hit on Tiger-Cats linebacker Larry Dean.

Elliott was one of four players fined undisclosed amounts by the league for questionable hits. The others were defensive lineman Jeff Finley and linebacker Kyries Hebert of the Montreal Alouettes and Eskimos linebacker Alex Ogbongbemiga.
