MONTREAL – Crews are cleaning up after a CN train slipped off the tracks in a Montreal neighbourhood, spilling diesel fuel from the engine.
Louis-Antoine Paquin, a spokesman for CN, says the freight train was travelling from Halifax to Montreal and wasn’t carrying any dangerous goods.
Paquin says both locomotives as well as two cars carrying grain came off the rails early Sunday in Montreal’s St. Henri district — but all of them remained upright.
He says the cause of the derailment isn’t yet clear and it’s too early to say how much diesel spilled.
Quebec’s environmental emergency services are on the scene and crews are working to get the train back on the track.
