Impact fire U-14 coach for “completely unacceptable” Facebook comments

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact fired under-14 head coach Mathieu Rufie on Tuesday due to his “completely unacceptable comments published on social media.”

Rufie, who grew up in France, posted comments on his Facebook page after Portugal beat the French 1-0 in the European Championship final on Sunday.

The comments have since been deleted and Rufie appears to have deactivated his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The team said in a release that it “fully dissociates itself from such remarks, which are contrary to the core values of the club and of its Academy.”

Rufie was in his first year with the U-14 club. He was hired in February.
