First past the Twitter post: NDP MPs on social media in greatest numbers

OTTAWA – A new report says New Democrat MPs have embraced the social-media world in greater numbers than any other federal party.

Digital communication research firm Full Duplex analyzed political activity on several platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.

It found that New Democrats on Parliament Hill have signed up in force — 90 per cent of them represented on Twitter and 98 per cent on Facebook.

But it was a Liberal MP that far outpaced her House of Commons colleagues for volume of tweets — Carolyn Bennett (@carolyn_bennett) posted 10,548 tweets in 2013.

Conservative MP Dan Albas (@danalbas) came a distant second with 4,118 tweets.

Green party Leader Elizabeth May sends out the most replies on Twitter, constituting 54 per cent of her tweets.
