Rescuers find two lost snowboarders on BC’s Cypress Mountain

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – A pair of snowboarders who went out of bounds and lost their way on Cypress Mountain have been rescued.

North Shore Rescue search manager Douglas Pope says the boarders were lost for several hours before they called for help just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

He says the man and woman in their 20s were a couple of kilometres out of bounds in steep and dangerous terrain.

After calling police on their cellphones, their location was tracked by GPS and rescuers headed out on snowshoes to retrieve them.

With the help of a helicopter, rescuers found the boarders on the west side of Black Mountain and ground crews were sent in to hike them out.

Pope points out that by going out of bounds, people put the lives of rescuers in danger along with their own. (CKNW)
