Penticton firefighters battle blaze at motel
PENTICTON – An investigation is underway into the cause of an early morning fire at an empty motel in Penticton.
Fire Chief Larry Watkinson says crews arrived at the Log Cabin Motel on Skaha Lake Road around 1 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, to find heavy fire engulfing the exterior of the office building.
Watkinson said the flames had breached the interior of the building, where a search was conducted for possible victims.
The motel complex is not in operation, and firefighters were concerned transients might be inside.
Nothing was found in the search and firefighters were able to knock down the flames quickly, he says.
Watkinson says the fire is believed to have started on the building’s exterior.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
