ELIDA, Ohio – Authorities say sheriff’s deputies have seized a military-style AR-15 carbine and 500 rounds of ammunition from a former student who threatened to shoot up an Ohio high school this coming September.
The Lima News reports four Elida high school students reported the threat late Wednesday, leading Allen County sheriff’s deputies to arrest 19-year-old Tristan Ascura, of Lima, early Thursday. He’s been charged with inducing panic.
The Sheriff’s Office says Ascura told the students to avoid going to school Sept. 1 because he was going to “shoot it up.”
School officials say Ascura dropped out of Elida High School in early April. Superintendent Joel Mengerink says the four students acted heroically.
Court records don’t indicate whether Ascura has an attorney.
Elida is roughly 85 miles (137 kilometres) south of Toledo.
