Kelowna RCMP investigate shooting that left woman injured in motel room

KELOWNA – A woman was taken to hospital early this morning after being found in a motel room with an apparent gunshot wound, police say.

Officers were called out just before 5:30 a.m. today, July 13, for a report of a woman in medical distress inside a motel room in the 3300 block of Lakeshore Road in Kelowna, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a release.

Numerous police resources responded to the scene after emergency operators learned the woman had reportedly sustained a gun shot wound, O’Donaghey says.

The woman was taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance for emergency medical treatment of her injuries.

“This investigation is in its early stages,” O’Donaghey says. “Although no arrests have been made, police do not believe there is any risk to public safety."

He adds that police officers will continue to secure the scene, gathering physical evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.

The Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section was called in to assist and will now take conduct of the investigation.
