Teen sobs in court as surveillance video of longboard attack played in court
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A 15-year-old boy who has admitted to hitting a man over the head with a longboard sobbed as surveillance video of the incident was played in a Kamloops, B.C., courtroom.
The footage outside a convenience store shows the teen in a heated confrontation with a 46-year-old man who is struck with the board.
Michael Forry told a sentencing hearing that he suffered a severe brain injury and that 49 screws and 52 staples were needed to put his skull back together after the attack a year ago.
Crown lawyer Frank Caputo says the violent offence calls for a two-month jail sentence in open custody at the Victoria Youth Custody Centre, followed by one month of community supervision.
Defence lawyer Tom Weiss says probation would be more suitable for the teen who is dealing with anger issues from a tragic upbringing and his complex psychological makeup. (CHNL)
