NEW YORK – Beyonce and Adele’s new music are sure to earn multiple Grammy nominations, but before that they are celebrating with Emmy nominations.
Beyonce earned two nominations, as an executive producer and co-director of HBO’s “Lemonade,” while Adele earned a nomination as executive producer of NBC’s “Adele Live In New York City.” Both specials earned a total of four nominations each.
Beyonce and Adele’s programs are nominated for outstanding variety special, where both singers earned nominations as executive producers.
Beyonce’s “Lemonade” was an album accompanied with an HBO special featuring music videos for each track. The singer is nominated for outstanding directing for a variety special with “Lemonade,” which she shares with co-director Kahlil Joseph, while “Lemonade” is also up for outstanding picture editing for a variety special and production design for a variety, nonfiction, event or award special.
Adele’s special aired last year from Radio City Music Hall and featured live performances of songs from her earth-shattering comeback album, “25.” It will also compete for outstanding directing for a variety special; lighting direction for a variety special; and technical direction, camerawork, video control for a limited series, movie or special.
Other nominees competing for outstanding variety special alongside Beyonce and Adele include “The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Prime Time Special” (CBS); “The Kennedy Center Honors” (CBS); and “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo” (HBO), which was directed by actor Chris Rock.
