Two structure fires in the last 24 hours

KELOWNA – Firefighters had a busy 24 hours with a pair of structure fires in Kelowna and Lake Country.

The first started in a detached workshop in East Kelowna Sunday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. According to Platoon Captain Steve Wallick, fire crews were called to a fully-involved shop on the 3600 block of Spiers Road.

No one was injured but because there are no hydrants in the area firefighters used a tender truck to extinguish the flames.

There were no injuries.

On Monday morning at around 4:45 a.m. Kelowna firefighters received a 911 call from a Lake Country resident with smoke in his basement.

In the furnace room crews found a small fire extending into the floor joists. The fire was extinguished but extensive damage will keep the owners and their dog from returning until power can be restored. No one was injured.

Although the causes of the fires are unknown at this time, neither are considered suspicious.
