Summer fun keeps search and rescue busy in the Central Okanagan
KELOWNA – Summer fun had Central Okanagan Search and Recue hopping this weekend.
A 60-year-old tourist from South Africa was the first call on Sunday, July 16, search manager Duane Trench said in a press release, after she crashed her bike on the KVR trail around 1 p.m.
Trench said the woman wasn’t wearing a helmet and sustained head injuries and a possible concussion.
Later that evening, members responded to Christie Falls up Bear Creek Road in West Kelowna where a man from Quebec injured himself falling off a rope swing.
The man suffered serious lower body injuries and was extracted with the help of members of Penticton Search and Rescue rope team who helped stabilize the patient while awaiting the Cormorant search and rescue helicopter from Comox.
The man in his mid-20s was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment.
