Police recover body from Mara Lake near Sicamous

SICAMOUS – Police have recovered the body of a 26-year-old Alberta man from Mara Lake after he went missing early yesterday morning.

Sicamous officers were notified the man was missing and was last seen on the shore of Mara Lake, an area south of Sicamous. Police located the man's body in about two metres of water between the beach and the resort marina, according to a media release.

The man's body was recovered by the Southeast District underwater recovery team in two metres of water.

Investigators say the victim swam into the lake around 4 a.m. yesterday, July 16, when he heard another man yelling for help. However the man who was in distress made it back to shore safely, police say.

Police have not released the man's identity and the investigation has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.

Police say no other information is available at this time.
