Roof closed at B.C. Place Stadium as rain falls on Heritage Classic

VANCOUVER – The NHL’s outdoor series has gone indoors.

The B.C. Place Stadium roof was closed due to rain for today’s Heritage Classic between the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators.

Mother Nature teased Vancouver and Ottawa players who had hoped the roof would be open for the big game as they battled for playoff positions in the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively.

Although Vancouver received a light snowfall overnight, a morning drizzle forced the closure of the stadium’s retractable roof.

Even with the roof closed, there was a chill in the air. But the rain did not dampen the spirits of fans, who wore many layers of clothing in anticipation of cold temperatures.

More than 50,000 fans showed up for the game, which was the first stadium contest for both teams.
