Canadian war artist Molly Bobak dies at age 95 in New Brunswick

FREDERICTON – Molly Lamb Bobak, the first woman to be named a Canadian war artist, has died.

She was 95.

The artist was born in 1920 on Lulu Island outside Vancouver but moved to Fredericton in 1960 with her husband Bruno Bobak, who was Canada’s youngest war artist during the Second World War.

Molly Bobak joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp in 1942 and was presented with the Order of Canada in 1995.

Her family says she painted until the age of 84, did workshops across Canada, taught at the University of New Brunswick and served on various boards and arts councils.

Molly Bobak was predeceased by her husband in 2012 and is survived by two children and a grandchild.

Her family says there will not be a public funeral.
