‘Let It Go’ wins Oscar for original song

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – “Let It Go” from the Disney musical “Frozen” has won the Academy Award for best original song.

The song, a catchy anthem sung by veteran Broadway songstress Idina Menzel and adored by countless young girls, many of whom are singing in it their own YouTube videos, has helped propel “Frozen” to become a huge hit. It was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Other nominees Sunday were: “Happy” from “Despicable Me 2,” ”The Moon Song” from “Her,” and “Ordinary Love” from “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.”

The 86th Academy awards are airing live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Ellen DeGeneres as host.
