Gemma Arterton to star in West End musical adaptation of ‘Made in Dagenham’

LONDON – The story of a band of female workers who fight the powers at their Ford factory is heading to London’s stage.

Producers said Monday that “Quantum of Solace” actress Gemma Arterton will play the lead role in “Made in Dagenham,” a musical based on the 2010 film of the same name.

The musical is written by Richard Bean — the playwright behind trans-Atlantic hit “One Man, Two Guvnors” — with music by David Arnold (who has composed for Bond films and “Sherlock”) and lyrics by Richard Thomas (“Jerry Springer: The Opera.”)

Arterton said she looked forward to telling the story with “wit, warmth and, of course, a lot of singing and dancing.”

Directed by Rupert Goold, the show opens at London’s Adelphi Theatre on Nov. 5.
