America’s top diplomat takes time from Ukraine crisis to meet new granddaughter

NEW YORK, N.Y. – U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has taken a quick time out for some baby talk as he heads overseas to deliver a strong diplomatic message of U.S. support for Ukraine’s government against a Russian military incursion.

Officially, the late-night stop in New York was to refuel Kerry’s plane before flying to Kyiv, where he is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian leaders on Tuesday afternoon.

But America’s top diplomat used the downtime to visit his new granddaughter, who was born Monday morning at a New York hospital.

It’s Kerry’s fifth grandchild, and she was born to his daughter, Alexandra, who is a film director and producer.

The baby girl has not yet been named.
