
Similkameen wildfires adding to smoky skies
SIMILKAMEEN – Fires burning in the Similkameen Valley are adding smoke to Okanagan skies, and it's having an impact on air quality.
According to the provincial government's air quality health index table, the North, Central and South Okanagan are all under a moderate health risk for air quality due to wildfire smoke.
B.C Wildfire reports a 50-hectare wildfire on Placer Mountain, located 37 kilometres south of Princeton.
The blaze is not considered an interface fire at this time and is being actioned by 33 firefighters and two helicopters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A second major fire is burning behind K Mountain near Keremeos on the north side of Scully Mountain. It is currently sized at 400 hectares, and a new fire is being reported at the junction of the Ashnola and Similkameen River, estimated at 0.4 hectares.
