Nielsen adjusts Oscars TV show rating up to 43.7 million, its biggest audience since 2000

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Nielsen ratings company has slightly raised its estimate of Sunday’s Oscars viewership to 43.7 million people.

Tuesday’s new estimate adds 700,000 viewers to what Nielsen had said a day earlier and makes the audience the biggest of any Academy Awards show’s since 2000.

The Oscars glow spread to host Ellen DeGeneres, whose daytime talk show on Monday recorded the highest ratings in its 11-year history.

Even though ABC easily won the week’s prime-time ratings race with the Oscars boost, NBC’s viewership was up 53 per cent from the same week a year before. That reflected a continued bump for NBC from the Winter Olympics and a reminder of just how dreadful the network’s performance was last winter.

NBC’s “The Voice” returned to strong viewer interest.
