Manitoba police lay criminal charge against foul-mouthed high school student
BRANDON, Man. – Police in Manitoba have charged a teen with a criminal offence for allegedly spewing swear words in school.
Staff at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary school in Brandon called to report the 17-year-old boy’s behaviour on Monday after lunch.
Police say the teen had been screaming and yelling profanities.
He was removed from the building.
He was charged with causing a disturbance by swearing, then released from custody to a parent.
Sgt. Mike Pelechaty (pell-a-CHAT’-ee) says the charge is more typically used when people cause disturbances by fighting or being drunk.
“In this case, I guess the officer felt this charge was appropriate.”
Pelechaty said he’s not aware of what the teen’s tirade was about.
A spokeswoman for the Brandon School Division said the student was “in distress” and it became necessary to call police.
The youth is to appear in court in April.
