Crews continue to battle Law Creek wildfire near West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA – The Law Creek wildfire burning six kilometres southwest of West Kelowna is holding at eight hectares with no new evacuation alerts or orders so far today.
The eight hectare blaze is challenging because it is burning in terrain that is hard to access, B.C. Wildfire says, and strong winds in the late afternoon has made it difficult and hazardous for air support.
Eighteen firefighters and heavy equipment will be working to contain the flanks of the fire and building control lines where it's possible, working 25 feet into the fire from the perimeter where possible. Air tankers are on standy and will be sent in as necessary.
Early this morning, July 20, the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre issued an evacuation alert for 198 properties and nearly 500 residents in the upper Glenrosa area of West Kelowna. The alert status will be reviewed later today.
All properties on streets west of Gates Road are affected by the evacuation alert. This includes the west side of Gates Road and Glenrosa Road west of Gates Road as well as:
- Carre Road
- Chesea Court
- Corine Road
- Corral Court
- Emerald Road
- Fenton Road
- Gill Road
- McKellar Road
- Preston Road
- Regent Road
- Stonegate Court
- Turnbull Road
