Krista Bridge, Wayne Grady among five nominees for First Novel Award
TORONTO – Krista Bridge’s “The Eliot Girls” is among five nominees for Amazon.ca’s First Novel Award.
The Toronto-based author already received a nomination for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize for the novel, set at a cutthroat all-girls private school.
Wayne Grady’s “Emancipation Day,” which was on the long list for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, is also in the running.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Bonert’s South African-set “The Lion Seeker,” “Juanita Wildrose: My True Life” by London, Ont., writer Susan Downe and D.W. Wilson’s “Ballistics” also earned nominations for the annual First Novel Award, now in its 38th year.
The winner of the $7,500 prize will be announced at an awards ceremony on April 30 in Toronto.
Past winners include Michael Ondaatje, Joy Kogawa, W.P. Kinsella, Nino Ricci and Joseph Boyden.
