UPDATE: B.C. Wildfire is preparing for burn operations on Mount Eneas

UPDATE: B.C. Wildfire just released more specifics on today’s strategy.

They plan to conduct burn operations with both helicopter and hand ignition on the Mt. Eneas wildfire today, July 22, according to their Facebook page.

This 1374 hectare wildfire is burning about four kilometers south of Peachland.

The operation will merge the Mount Eneas wildfire with the Munro Creek FSR wildfire and is intended to decrease the amount of fire perimeter that must be managed. This burn will aso bring the wildfire off the steep slopes and onto workable, safe terrain for ground crews.

The B.C. Wildfire Service say they will closely evaluate conditions and that plans may change as conditions change. In preparation for these operations, air tankers are creating a fire retardant line on the northwest corner of the fire. The results of a test burn will determine if the operation will go ahead.

Increased smoke may be visible because of this burn operation.
