Musical revival of ‘One the Town’ finds a home on Broadway
NEW YORK, N.Y. – “On the Town,” the 1944 musical about three sailors on shore leave in New York City, is steaming toward Broadway.
Producers said Thursday that the musical, with music by Leonard Bernstein and a story and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, will find a berth in October at the Lyric Theatre, the renovated and renamed venue formerly known as the Foxwoods Theatre.
The revival will be directed by John Rando, who won a Tony for helming “Urinetown.” It will also feature choreography by Joshua Bergasse an Emmy Award winner for “Smash.”
“On the Town” was also made into a 1949 film starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. It features the songs “New York, New York,” ”I Can Cook Too,” ”Lonely Town,” and “Some Other Time.”
No casting was announced.
