Alberta beats Saint Mary’s 72-62 in opening game of CIS Final 8 championship

OTTAWA – The Alberta Golden Bears defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 72-62 in the opening game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Final 8 men’s basketball championship.

The Canada West champions trailed by four points at the half Friday afternoon but pulled ahead with a strong effort in the third quarter.

Alberta forward Jordan Baker led all scorers with 17 points.

The Golden Bears will play either Carleton or McMaster in Saturday’s semifinal at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The other quarter-final games include McGill against Victoria and Saskatchewan against Ottawa.

The medal games are set for Sunday.
