Kelowna RCMP ask for public’s help in identifying assault suspect

KELOWNA – Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man who assaulted another man with a longboard in downtown Kelowna — five days after the incident took place.

Kelowna RCMP says in a new release that the incident took place on Saturday, July 21 at 8:28 p.m. near the corner of Queensway and Pandosy Street. A man was found unresponsive and was being cared for by people in the area and security officers.

B.C. Ambulance arrived and took the man to the hospital for medical treatment after he suffered serious injuries to the head from being hit with a longboard.

Police say some witnesses remained in the area to speak with investigators but officers believe there are several others who may have seen the altercation and have not spoken to police. The incident happened five days ago and police are now asking for help in identifying the suspect.

"These are the people that we are hoping will contact investigators and allow their cell phone footage to be viewed," Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Tania Caroll says in the release. "Our investigators are interested in gathering all available evidence and would like to encourage any and all additional witnesses to come forward to police."

Police made patrols throughout the downtown area but the suspect was not located or identified, however, officers obtained surveillance footage from the area that will help with identifying the man.

In the video, the man is wearing a red baseball cap with a white coloured graphic, black pants and a dark coloured T-shirt with a white graphic, and he is also seen wearing a long sleeved shirt tied around his waist.

If you were in the area and may have witnessed, heard or taken video footage of the incident, police are asking you to contact the Kelowna RCMP general investigation section at 250-762-6329 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
